Ēmmē Wabi-Sabi Restaurant - Brisbane

The Ēmmē project showcases a refined integration of natural textures and contemporary design, transforming the venue into a warm yet sophisticated space. Our work focused on sculpting custom stone-textured surfaces throughout the bar and service areas, each one hand-finished to mimic the organic contours and tonal variations of real rock. From the entry wall to the sweeping main bar, these elements were designed to create a cohesive visual flow, pairing the rugged character of stone with the clean lines and precision of modern joinery.

As the focal point of the venue, the main bar was designed to combine durability, tactile appeal, and aesthetic presence. Using our signature S1 concrete mix, we began with a flat base layer to ensure structural integrity before applying a thicker sculpting layer. This allowed us to carve deep contours, subtle ridges, and natural imperfections that give the surface an authentic stone feel. Once shaped, the surface was hand-detailed with fine tools to capture the grain, shadowing, and tonal depth of weathered rock. A polished stone benchtop was then added, contrasting the raw texture of the base with a smooth, refined finish.

Key Features:

  • Custom-sculpted stone texture for a natural yet controlled finish.
  • Durable S1 concrete mix designed for high-traffic hospitality use.
  • Hand-carved detailing for realistic depth and organic variation.
  • Contrasting benchtop in polished stone for visual balance.
  • Integrated lighting accents to enhance shadow and texture.

The Ēmmē project features custom rock-textured surfaces across the entry, bar, and service areas, all crafted to bring depth, warmth, and authenticity to the space. By combining naturalistic stone forms with contemporary detailing, the design delivers an inviting, tactile environment that feels both modern and timeless.
